Our Music
CUSTOM SHOWS
Each year we have schools that contract
with us to write a custom show exclusively
for their band.  When we write a custom
show, we discuss various theme ideas, story
lines, visual ideas, etc. to get a clear picture
of the type of show the director wants.
Then we discuss each section of the band
including strengths, weaknesses, potential
soloists, etc.  These steps will help ensure
that the music will be written to allow each
band to sound its' best.

A custom show package will include a score,
complete set of parts, a synopsis with
rehearsal suggestions, a midi recording, and
the
Exclusive Rights to perform that show
for the upcoming marching season.  In other
words--only
Your Band will be performing
that show that year!

Usually these shows are original music
compositions or sometimes music that is in
the public domain.  These shows are
copyrighted by Barry Hurt Music and may
be made available for purchase by other
schools the following year after your band's
Exclusive Rights expire.  Occasionally, we
get asked to arrange music that is
copyrighted and/or published by other
sources.  It is the responsibility of each
school to obtain all Permission to Arrange,
copyright clearances, pay any fees, and
provide Barry Hurt Music with copies of all
documentation before any work can begin
on previously copyrighted music.

The average cost of a custom show for a
small school band is $1200.00-$1500.00.
We realize that this is quite a bit less (in
some cases thousands less!) than may be
charged by other arrangers.  However, we
know that small schools are working within
limited budgets, and we want to make the
option of a custom show within the financial
reach of most small schools.  Due to time
constraints we can only write a limited
number of custom shows each year.  If you
are interested in discussing the possibility of
having us write a custom show for your
band, give us a call--and call soon!
